Activities in Gustavus and Glacier Bay

The Gustavus Inn

Gustavus Inn hearkens back to simpler times. We enjoy the role of innkeepers, allowing you to focus on our unique country and its adventures. On your arrival, we'll help plan for current highlights, be it charter fishing, kayaking, whalewatching, viewing eagles, fishing in the river, or finding ripe wild strawberries and likely places for a particular bird, wildflower or mushroom.

The scenic open terrain, surrounded by water and snowcapped mountains, encourages sunset strolls and easy bicycling, a hike through an emerald rainforest; or enjoy bonfires and pick wild strawberries on untamed ocean beaches. A favorite before dinner activity is stream fishing (with our rods) for Dolly Varden and pink salmon in the nearby Salmon River. Several art galleries and shops allow an afternoon wander to select local products.

A ride is provided every afternoon so our guests may take naturalist led walks in Glacier Bay National Park in Bartlett Cove and enjoy the visitors center.
